THIS WEEK: Wrestling returns to action with a Big 12 dual at home against No. 25 North Dakota State, Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:00 p.m. MT, in Clune Arena. THE SERIES AGAINST NORTH DAKOTA STATE: The Falcons and Bison will be meeting for the 16th time in program history. The Bison lead the series, 13-2, and have won the last five in a row including a 23-14 win last season in Fargo. The teams first met in the 1991-92 season where the Bison edged by Air Force, 23-22, at the Air Force Academy. Air Force’s last win over North Dakota State was in the 2010-11 season, the Falcons topped the Bison, 22-19, at home.
SCOUTING THE BISON: The Bison will take to the mats under the lead of head coach, Roger Kish, who is in his sixth season as head coach of the North Dakota State wrestling team. He is the fourth head coach in the 59-year history of the Bison wrestling program and currently holds a 52-38 overall dual record.
North Dakota State dropped two places to 25th in the USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Coaches Top 25 Poll on Feb. 7. The Bison were 18th in the tournament and 25th in the dual rankings compiled by InterMat.com, 18th in the Track Wrestling rankings and tied for 17th in WIN Wrestling Magazine's Tournament Power Index and 23rd on the dual charts.
North Dakota State will brandish five nationaly-ranked wrestlers in Friday’s dual meet, led by 2016 NCAA qualifier, No. 4 Josh Rodriguez at 125. Rodriguez, who has only lost once in 19 matches this season, placed third at the 2016 Big 12 Championships. The bison 157-pounder, No. 8 Clay Ream, will take the mats with a 14-1 dual mark. Ream is a two-time NCAA qualifier. The Bison’s Andrew Fogarty, who is No. 20 in the nation with a 20-6 overall mark, is slated to take the mats in the 165 class, while No. 25 Cam Sykora and Ben Tynan will represent the Bison in the 133 and 285 classes, respectively.

LAST WEEKEND IN LARAMIE, WY: In their final road dual of the season, Air Force dropped a 29-9 loss to Big 12 foe, Wyoming, Saturday evening, in the UniWyo Sports Complex, Laramie, Wyo. The Falcons, who are now 5-5 overall with a 0-3 mark in conference, will complete their final two Big 12 dual matches at home. Dylan Hyder, Jerry McGinty and Anthony McLaughlin added wins to their dual slate at the event.
KILGORE WINS A TITLE AT THE SCHULTZ MEMORIAL: Less than three months after winning the Bill Farrell Memorial International, Nov. 11, 2016, Dustin Kilgore won a 97-kg title at the Dave Schultz Memorial International Thursday, Feb. 2, in Colorado Springs. Air Force’s volunteer assistant coach went 3-0 on the day, including a comeback victory in his semifinal bout over Jeffrey Felix. It was Kilgore's fourth career finals appearance at the Schultz Memorial.
UP NEXT FOR AIR FORCE: The Falcons will cap their 2016-17 dual slate with a Big 12 battle at home against Northern Colorado, for Senior’s Night, Thurs., Feb 16, at 7:00 p.m. MT, in Clune Arena, USAFA. On Sunday, Feb. 19, Air Force will host the U.S. Collegiate Championships, in the Center Gym of Cadet Gymnasium. Bouts are slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. MT.
